Subgingival Irrigation

SubGingival Irrigation

SubGingival means 'under the gumline' - as well as referring to under and inbetween the teeth where it is many times very difficult to maintain a debris free (plaque and calculus free) surfaces of the teeth. Scaling procedures with hand instruments and/or sonic/ultrasonic scalers are commonly used to remove the debris that collects on and around the teeth.

SubGingival irrigation is another 'tool' or device that uses hydro-dynamic principles to help keep those 'hard to get to' spaces both 'under the gumlines' and 'inbetween the teeth' clean. When this device is used in the office for irrigation, special anti-microbial and medicated solutions are used; when this type of device is used at home (and this is recommended), regular water can be used for more effective dental hygiene.
